Investing in people, the community and the future
Intership Navigation considers its human resources as its most important asset. Intership Navigation was the first shipping company on the island to be certified for compliance with the “Investors in People” shore staff development program in 2012 and received the Bronze accreditation in 2015.
Acknowledging the value of a dedicated workforce, Intership strives to provide an environment which will allows its staff to achieve that increasingly important balance between work and life/family commitments.
Intership offers its employees the opportunity to work flexible hours and also provides a canteen for serving company-subsidized lunch. In addition, a Day Care Centre was constructed adjacent to the building exclusively for employees’ children. To promote physical and mental well-being, a lounge area with TVs, a well-equipped gym and a ‘games room’ is also housed within the 5,700m2 headquarters.
Over the years, we have established what can be considered a ‘social network’: several ‘Family Centres’ around the Philippines maintain contact with the families of our seafarers, and give easy access to ship-to-shore communication by email. The family centres also assist the families of our seafarers by granting loans, assisting with daily life problems – and even arrange counselling (family, financial) when needed.
Our manning agency regularly arranges seminars and social gatherings for the wives and families and responds to personal problems of the families. All families of our senior officers enjoy free medical care through a health scheme established several years ago.
Intership’s social responsibility extends to the community too. We organize an annual charity event while management and staff also regularly take part in charitable events such as blood donation drives and other community events such as marathons and parades.
Intership is an active participant in Cymepa’s pioneering Adopt-a-Ship project. This project offers local schools the opportunity to interact with the Captain and crew of participating vessels thus giving them the opportunity to learn about life at sea and onboard and opens new horizons and possibilities for the youth. Intership also regularly participates in exhibitions and forums promoting careers in the shipping industry.
These are some of the ways in which we see our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility put to work.
