On Friday 9th May 2014, children from a local school visited Intership to learn more about shipping and in particular to learn about “their” ship, MV Federal Katsura.
MV Federal Katsura was “adopted” by the school through the Adopt -A-Ship Programme.
The Adopt -A-Ship Programme was created in 2006 as a joint initiative between the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and Cymepa to promote shipping in Cyprus to the younger generation by highlighting the benefits of shipping, its contribution to society and possible careers both at sea and ashore.
Through the programme, primary school children are able to communicate with the ship via email thereby learning first-hand about shipping activities and operations directly from the Captain and crew onboard.
The children were welcomed to Intership’s offices by CFO Mr. Evangelos Charalambous and the Secretary General of Cymepa, Dr. Michalis Ierides. Using a scaled model of a ship, Technical Superintendent Michalis Valiantis explained the structure of a ship and its parts.
Cymepa had puzzles made of all the ships participating in the programme and during the visit, the school was presented with a puzzle of their ship, MV Federal Katsura.
After a short video about Intership Navigation, as well as a presentation from Cymepa on the sea, the children were offered a guided tour through the offices. Some snacks in the cafeteria and a goodie-bag of things to take home was the perfect end to their educational trip.
